The Sawiris family is making headlines once again. This week, however, it is Nassef Sawiris at center stage after being named Adidas' largest investor.

With a 6 percent share in second-best performing company in Germany's DAX index, Sawiris' latest ambitious business endeavor is an ultimate stepping stone in his career as one of Egypt's leading investors. His stake was revealed after he increased his share to more than 5 percent, requiring public disclosure.

According to Business Insider, Adidas' stock has risen 41 percent this year. The company's latest invention, " Boost Technology," took the world by storm and with Kanye West's help, the brand is finding renewed popularity among youth.

With a networth of more than $5 billion, Sawiris has stakes in multiple multinational companies, including Dutch fertilizer company OCI N.V., and is currently the largest investor in LafargeHolcim Ltd., a Swiss cement company.
