The world famous Ramesseum, as well as three tombs in Luxor, will be illuminated at night under a new project designed to boost tourism and increase security at the sites.

Egyptian Antiquities Minister Mamdouh Al Damaty said in a statement Thursday that the project is part of a plan to protect a variety of archaeological sites in Luxor. The sites will be well-lit and surrounded by surveillance cameras, he added.

The project, which will officially be launched Saturday, also aims to promote tourism, because tourists will be able to visit the historical archaeological sites at night. The tombs of Ramses IV, Ramses VI, and Seti will be included in the lighting plan.

"These sites will stay open until 11 PM during the summer and 9 PM in the winter" Damaty said, according to Egypt Independent.

Using a loan provided by Spain, the project will use the newest lighting systems, according to Mahmoud Afifi, an official in the Antiquities Ministry.
