Egypt's First Victoria's Secret Lingerie Store Unveiled To Fanfare in Cairo

While everyone was still high on the New Year’s celebratory spirit, Cairo was slammed with the news that Victoria’s Secret was opening two lingerie stores in Cairo, one in City Stars Mall and another in Cairo Festival City Mall. For over two weeks, the billboards were everywhere. They even had the Victoria's Secret supermodels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio send out an endearing announcement to all Cairenes. Who can say no to that?

On Saturday, January 17 th, Victoria’s Secret fans celebrated the opening of the City Stars store. Pink was everywhere, from signs guiding you into the store to ladies clutching a few Victoria's Secret pink shopping bags.

Even though City Stars already has a Victoria's Secret store solely for perfumes, it isn’t the perfumes that pop into our minds when we mention Victoria’s Secret.

Although the Angels did not come to Egypt themselves, the store ensured that their essence is everywhere. No matter which store entrance you choose, you are guaranteed to be greeted with winged mannequins that waft Angel elegance at you.

As Monica George, a 22-year-old Victoria's Secret junkie puts it, “It’s as if all the store assistants are picked to look like Hassan elShafei and Nagwa Karam.”

Even though many others were entirely psyched about a Victoria's Secret finally opening in Cairo, some visitors were somewhat disappointed upon visiting the store.

“I have watched every VS runway show, and I know their product line by heart. All I could find at the store varied between bras, panties and PJs,” one visitor commented. “If that’s the result of market study, then it says a lot about the Egyptian perception of sex, and dressing up for it.”

In an attempt to bring the full experience to one place, the store has a compartment for makeup and perfumes. And in case you weren’t tempted to try on their perfumes, each dressing room is provided with perfume testers to apply. In general, the dressing rooms feel more like hang out lounges, with a little button to summon help in case you need any.

There’s news around the store that Victoria’s Secret is expected to open a PINK shop in a month.  Although no exact date is known for when to expect the Cairo Festival City Mall branch to open, it is expected to be soon.
