Mohammed Assaf is once again single, but maybe not on his own terms.
Initially, women throughout the Arab world shed tears in September when the Palestinian singer announced his engagement to Palestinian-Russian TV presenter Lina Qishawi .

However, shortly after the engagement, Assaf shocked many fans when he insisted that he didn't want Qishawi to continue her career.
According to Al Bawaba, Assaf said he wanted Qishawi to "quit the media completely and move away from the spotlight. She will also never appear in any of my music videos because I want her to be as far away from showbiz as possible."
While initial reports said that Qishawi agreed to the arrangement, it looks like in the end she decided her personal dreams were more important than being hitched to the Arab Idol winner.
After posting a picture of herself back on TV to Instagram with a cryptic caption, fans realized something was up.
When asked about the reason for the break-up, Assaf was vague. "We tried to get to know each other better during the time of out engagement, but things didn't work out. I wish her all the best," he said, according to Al Bawaba .
But it looks like Qishawi chose her dreams over simply being the wife of a celebrity. And to that, we can only say, "You go girl!"
