Authorities in Kuwait arrested a non-Kuwaiti beggar who was found to possess some 500,000 Kuwaiti dinar (around $1.65 million) in his bank account.

Can we get a small chunk of that?

The unidentified man was arrested as part of the emirate's initiative to detain and deport expats beggars. He was caught begging near a mosque telling worshippers that he desperately needed money as he claimed to have no home or financial support.

"Servicemen were patrolling the area when they saw a man standing near a mosque and begging for money, telling worshippers that he badly needed cash and that he had no home,” security sources told Al Rai, according to Gulf News.

"He was immediately arrested as he was breaking the law and was taken to Al Ahmadi police station where an investigation revealed that he had a bank account in a local bank worth more than KD500,000."

During interrogations, the man admitted to his large stash of cash despite his previous pleas for assistance.

Maybe he should have quit while he was ahead?

Kuwait along with Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates completely forbids begging, especially during the month of Ramadan. Back in April, Kuwait also arrested and deported 22 beggars.

This man may not get off so easily though, as he has been referred for prosecution. Maybe they will let him use some of the money to hire a good lawyer?
