Earlier this year, a Bengali driver who came to Kuwait to work as a driver, graduated from one of the country's top private universities with the help of his own employers, Al Qabas newspaper reported.
Speaking to the local daily, Mustafa, now an accounting graduate, explained that after graduating from high school in Bangladesh in 2004, he had to look for jobs abroad to support his struggling family.
In 2006, he went to Kuwait after he had applied for a job as a driver.
"I began working for a Kuwaiti family, who soon became a second family to me. A few years later, I told my employers that my lifelong dream was to get a university degree and was surprised when they said they'd help me achieve it," Mustafa said.
"They helped with my exams and supported me through it all"
After he enrolled for classes in 2013, Mustafa was finally on the road to realizing his dream.
Speaking to Al Qabas, he explained how supportive his employers were throughout his years in college.
He also added that the family paid his tuition fees, helped out when he had exams and pushed him forward with words of encouragement.
Graduated with distinction
Mustafa graduated with distinction in January of this year.
In his interview with Al Qabas, he expressed the happiness he felt on his graduation.
But he also explained that it was a bittersweet experience given that his employer's wife, a woman who had helped him the most, passed away a few months before the ceremony.
"I hoped that she could have been there to see me graduate with top grades. She always treated me like I was one of her sons. I will always pray for her," he said.
When asked about his next step, Mustafa explained that one of his former employers offered him a job in a Kuwaiti bank, and he looks forward to starting a career in banking later this year.
