A Japanese couple was recently convicted for having extra-marital sex in a car while parked at a beach in Dubai.
The couple was spotted having sexual intercourse in Al Sofouh area back in March when an off-duty policeman saw them and reported the incident, according to Gulf News.
The couple, a 41-year old Japanese man and a 28-year-old woman, were interrogated on the spot. They had explained that they had made it out to the beach after grabbing drinks at Madinat Jumeirah.
The man explained that the two had felt nauseous after consuming alcohol and decided to remove their clothes to throw up the liquor.
"When we left the restaurant, we felt sick. Then we drove towards the beach, removed our clothes and tried to throw up to feel comfortable … we did not have sex. When I left my car and went to urinate, the witnesses saw us. Then police came and apprehended us," the man testified.
The couple was referred to the public prosecution, pleading guilty for having sex out of wedlock and for consuming alcohol.
According to the primary judgement, the 41-year-old man was acquitted of having alcohol. However, the woman was fined 2,000 dirhams.
When the couple first appeared before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court, they asked the judge for a lenient punishment, according to Gulf News.
However, the court handed the duo a one-month suspended imprisonment. The court also gave the couple a deportation order.
The couple appealed their primary judgment and will appear before the Appeal Court in September.
