We tend to complain how the media perpetuates certain stereotypes about Lebanon but Lebanese people in general tend to place labels on each other. If you're living in Lebanon, you probably already know what these labels are. Here are 8 labels Lebanese people use to stereotype each other:
1. Beiruti
No, you don't have to be from Beirut to be called this. Anyone who talks with a "too American" or "too French" accent and loves spending loads of money and drives a Mercedes, BMW, Porsche or an Audi basically gets called out.
2. Frenchies
Nop, this person did not grow up in France. This person hasn't probably ever been to France in their entire life. They have attended a French school and always start a conversation with "ca va?". They talk like "zis" and love to "dghink" wine.
3. Jnoubi
You're not Westernized and your pronunciation can be a bit strong with words like "kobeye" and "roz" and "hamood" making their way into your conversations. Also, if you wear yellow, you're by default a Jnoubi and if you always fight with people, you're definitely a Jnoubi and if you eat lahme like the world is ending, you're no doubt a Jnoubi.
4. Jagal
You're branded from head to toe and wear your fancy clothes and fancy shoes. Every guy wants to be you and every girl wants to be with you. You're also probably tall, fit, and sun-kissed.
5. Baalbaki
Iza inti "okhte" and can handle "kol shee" that comes your way, and love "djobneh" this label is definitely for you. Also,if you always know someone who knows someone who everyone is scared of, then you're definitely a Baalbaki.
6. Saidawi
If your daily conversations include the phrases "ashbak oshob" and "lissa" and "zay ma hiyyeh" you're definitely a Saidawi. Also, you probably don't like to carry around a wallet because spending money is so mainstream.
7. Bint el papi
She carries her Louis Vuitton bag around the gym, is constantly talking on her phone or putting on makeup. Probably just studying business at university to take over "papi's sherke."
Last but not least...
8. Kteer libnani
If you just do something that's not Western, khalas you're Libnani. But aren't all Lebanese people Libnaniyeh?
