Humor in Lebanon is a matter of survival. We season the good, the bad and the ugly with a good joke. And frankly, we won't have it any other way.
A great outlet for our whimsical bent is our pool of comic artists who add a satirical twist to the pitfalls of the country.
Here is Life in Lebanon, as told by the comic talents Zina Comics, Ink On The Side and Maya Zankoul :
1. Driving...it's more of a dance, really.
Driving in the country is on a league of its own. Sometimes it's hard to tell if drivers are trying to get from point A to point B, or if they practicing for a Formula 1 qualifier.
2. #Nevergiveup on argileh
People often highlight the negative effects of smoking...a cigarette. Do not even think about bringing argileh into that conversation. It will not go well.
4. The laws change faster than the weather
Can't help but notice this comic was first posted in 2012...has much changed since? OK, no in all seriousness, how many times have you traveled to a country with a real set of laws and missed the flexibility Lebanon has to offer?
5. Your life in a nutshell
Always be prepared for a sudden return to the iron age with the Mighty Lebanese Toolkit.
6. That one question that slips out your mouth almost every day
Forget about "Hi, Keefak, ça va." This is the real Lebanese catchphrase.
8. We express our love for one another, and we do so in no uncertain terms
Humor...it's the spice of our traffic jam-ridden, power outages consumed lives, now isn't it?
