The latest State of Broadband report released a few days ago showed that just 68.4 percent of households in Lebanon have Internet in comparison to 98 percent in Qatar, 94 percent in Saudi Arabia, and 90.1 percent in the UAE. However, the Telecom Ministry, with Ogero, had previously announced in July that it will be introducing fiber optics in six months (a year, minimum, in Lebanese standard time) to accelerate the speed of the Internet.
What kind of world would we live in, if the Internet was faster? What new adventures could we go on with unlimited speed? Oh the possibilities are legion! Here's some of our predictions:
1. Stream and Chill
Netflix may not be available in Lebanon, but with a fast Internet, who even needs it? 'Netflix and chill' will be readapted to 'stream and chill.'
2. The TV will become your new projector
How else are you supposed to stream and chill without your HDMI game on?!
3. Cheap CD kiosks will cease to exist
Goodbye, friend. You've been good to me, but it's time to move on.
4. Better yet, you'll just dump your TV
Don't look at me that way! It's possible, really.
5. You and BitTorrent will be the bestest of friends
LimeWire, what?
6. What is socializing?
Everything is easier to do over the Internet. It's even better if we don't have actual physical contact, so thanks but not thanks.
7. You will become the hipster you've always hated
With great power comes great responsibility. Listen to Oprah.
