Earlier this year, one of the most known names in fashion, Palestinian-American Bella Hadid announced that she is "proud to be Muslim" ... and the media couldn't stop talking about.  

But, truth be told a bunch of well-known celebrities are Muslim too. 

Here are some you probably didn't know about. 

1. Ice Cube

Born in the United States, O'Shea Jackson Sr. aka Ice Cube converted to Islam in the mid 1990s.  

The American rapper and record producer calls himself a "natural Muslim" because "it's just between me and God," he said, according to The Guardian.

2. Dave Chappelle

The American stand-up comedian also converted to Islam in the 1990s and believes the religion is "beautiful if you learn it the right way." 

3. Zayn Malik

British singer-songwriter Zayn Malik was born to a Muslim father and a convert mother. 

The singer has been faced with threats. He was also accused of "pimping Islam" by right-wing bloggers, and labeled alongside his former band-mates in "One Direction" of promoting "boyband jihad." 

4. Swiss Beatz (Alicia Keys' husband)

American hip-hop recording artist and producer Swiss Beatz (real name known as Kasseem Dean) is a Muslim. 

5. Shaquille O'Neal

Retired American professional basketball player Shaquille O'Neal was raised by a Baptist mother and a Muslim stepfather.

O'Neal has said "I'm Muslim, I'm Jewish, I'm Buddhist, I'm everybody 'cause I'm a people person." 

6. Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens)

British singer and songwriter Cat Stevens converted to Islam in 1977 and changed his name to Yusuf Islam the following year. 

In 1979, he took some time off from his music career to engage in educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community.  

7. Lupe Fiasco

American rapper Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, better known as Lupe Fiasco, was raised Muslim and says that Islam "plays a part in my life and everything I do, to a certain extent."

He also said that Islam has helped him with his life. 

"We have faults. We make mistakes. That’s what religion is for, to help you correct your mistakes," he said.
