You know giving thanks is somewhat integrated into our cultures, whether we notice it or not. It's becoming somewhat of a habit to say 'al hamdulillah' after almost every sentence. But there are some emotions that will get you saying the phrase without even thinking twice about it.
1. When you're just too happy
When you're just too happy and good things are happening all around you and you just don't want them to come to an end. You repeatedly say 'al hamdullilah' for everything because you just don't want to jinx it.

You spent hours worrying about something, and then the result turned out to be great. With the sense of relief comes an exhale of air with 'al hamdulillah.'
