Regardless of your faith, Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, always feels like a special time of the year.
Here are six things you should try and do during the holy month:
1. Show some charity
Charity is a gigantic part of the Islamic faith. Use this Ramadan as a time to give back to society. Whether you volunteer at a local charity organization, spend some time with special needs children, or just go out and distribute water/dates/food and essentials to people who are working outdoors, it all makes a positive and important difference.
2. Enjoy a traditional iftar
If you are a non-Muslim living in the Middle East and you have been invited to a traditional iftar, accept the invitation and enjoy this wonderful meal that is shared with family and friends.
Alternatively, a great idea is to gather a group of friends and book one of the iftar buffets offered at the many fabulous restaurants around the Middle East. Don't forget to sample Arabic dishes that you have not tried before.
3. Read and expand your mind
Expand your mind, when was the last time you sat down and truly relaxed with a good book? Read something inspirational, educational and uplifting to really get you thinking about life.
4. Try fasting for a day/week/month
Why not join in and try fasting for the day, to begin with. It won't harm you and it might help you understand and empathize more with people who are fasting during the month of Ramadan.
5. Explore other cultures
Try and explore the rich culture of the Middle East. Head to Dubai’s Heritage Village, or visit the modern art museums on Saadiyat Island.
There is also the UNESCO world heritage site of Petra, the National Museum of Beirut or Qatar’s Museum of Islamic Art. These are just a handful of cultural treasures to explore this month. Also, you should see how the different nationalities break their fast and educate yourself in the traditions of the different cultures living in the Middle East.
6. Buy a car!
Seriously though, some of the offers put on the table by the leading car manufacturers during Ramadan are unbelievable! Do your research, shop around, haggle (of course), and see if you can get yourself some new wheels before Eid!
