With 2014 coming to a close and 2015 (with all the resolutions for the new year) around the corner, it’s time to get ready to get into shape with the hottest fitness trends of 2015. Why? Because part of being in style is having a healthy lifestyle.
So what are the trendiest workouts?
Body Weight Training
Who needs fancy gym equipment when you can whip yourself into ripped perfection using only your own body weight? The beauty of body weight training is that it goes far beyond standard pushups, sit ups etc. and can target every single jiggling trouble zone. There is also a lot of room for progression, with modifications and variations to exercises making them harder and harder (or easier).
High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
This has been all the rage for a while. In HIIT you alternate between intense spurts of exercise and short, often active recovery periods. This is usually done for 20 minutes, though HIIT workouts can be shorter or longer. By the end of your HIIT workout you should have pushed yourself to be point of being breathless. If you can chat during your “intense spurts” then you’re not going hard enough. "High Intensity" means high intensity!
Recovery
Obviously, if you’re exhausting yourself with lots of HIIT and tough body weight workouts you need to give your body the chance to recover to reduce muscle soreness and the risk of injury. Think yoga, foam rolling, therapy balls and dynamic stretching.
Personal Training and Online Training
Having a personal trainer or opting for online training are both more popular than ever. Many are paying a decent amount for personal trainers at the gym or at home. And some who don’t go to the gym or are on tighter budgets, are getting their professional guidance and motivation through online training. Whatever you decide to go for, make sure the trainer really is an expert by asking about his/her qualifications.
Activity Trackers
Fitness is not just tied to slotting in time for a workout. It’s about adopting the right lifestyle and moving around as much as possible during the day. This is where activity trackers come in, like the Fitbit, Jawbone and other nifty high tech bands. With a deluge of new products slated for release in 2015, many with built-in heart rate monitors and other cool features, it looks like activity trackers have finally matured into something more than fancy pedometers and alarm clocks.
