5 bromance moments between Trump and Sisi

The strongman leaders of Egypt and the U.S. further entrenched their bromantic relationship this week, with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi visiting Donald Trump in Washington D.C. 

Even before Trump's election, it became clear that a fast friendship was developing between the two men. Perhaps they bonded over their mutual disregard for human rights and press freedom? 

Whatever the reason, the bromance was positively simmering this week. So, we thought we'd take a look at some of the best and most bromantic moments from this unlikely – and yet oh-so likely – friendship. 

Prepare to smile at the cuteness. 

Upon meeting on Monday, Sisi was so excited to see his favorite bro, he could barely contain himself. 

As he clasped Trump's hand warmly, he called the U.S. president "your excellency," not once, not twice, but three times!

Now that's a beautiful friendship. 

What are friends for if they aren't there to encourage one another when things look bad? Trump showed just how kind and supportive he is.

Despite Egypt's floundering economy, he threw his full confidence behind Sisi, saying he's done a "fantastic job."

"I just want to let everybody know that we are very much behind President al-Sisi -- he has done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation," Trump told reporters when he greeted his Egyptian buddy. 

Just after taking office in January, Trump made one of his first official phone calls as president to Sisi.

Sisi told Trump that he hoped bilateral ties between the two countries will see a "new push" under Trump's administration. Trump reiterated his praise for Egypt's efforts to address extremism and commended Sisi's efforts to address the country's economic woes. He also offered to discuss ways the U.S. could support Egypt economically. 

Friends always have each others' back, even when it's not popular.

Sisi may be a Muslim leader in the Arab world's most populous and predominantly Muslim country, but that doesn't mean he's going to criticize his American friend's anti-Muslim comments.

Brushing off Trump's calls to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S., Sisi said last year that American security has always been strict. He also said that "during election campaigns many statements are made and many things are said."

From their very first meeting, it was clear that a beautiful bromance had begun.

After hanging out in New York in September before the election, Sisi said there was "no doubt" that Trump would make a strong leader. Trump also had glowing praise for Egypt's president, promising to be "a loyal friend, not simply an ally." 

And they lived happily ever after ... As for the rest of us, that remains to be seen.
