Being single is underrated.  It is usually perceived as a green room where we all await our prince charming.

But, however wonderful getting swept off one’s feet is, staying grounded has its perks.

1. Avoiding the definite

We’ve all been through a tragic heartbreak ... avoiding this terrible pain is definitely No. 1 on our list for staying single.

2. Staying focused

Being in a relationship can provide one with magnificent emotional experiences, but these emotional drifts often occupy all your attention, leaving very little room for a person to focus on being productive.

3. Pampering oneself

It is usually the case that when people are in love and together they seek to please the other person more than themselves. Being single may seem like a lonely state, but it doesn't have to be the case.  Take the time to truly know and take care of yourself. After all, aren’t you the best company?

4. Chance to being spontaneous

There is nothing better than allowing one’s self to be spontaneous. By being yourself freely, you allow yourself to know and monitor yourself more. Add to that, you will avoid lingering around the wrong crowd as you will only attract people who really like your personality.

5. Spending time with your friends and family

We often neglect the people who we love. We tend to keep our friendships on the side in an effort to immerse ourselves fully with a lover. It is often too late when we realize that we missed out on spending time with the people closest to us.

We’re not saying that relationships allow no time for friends and family at all, but it would be great to really spend some time with them without worrying what your lover will be doing and when you will be back.

6. Get educated

Imagine all the things you can do with your lover throughout the first chapter of “The Fountainhead.” Our advice? Read the hell out of these books when you have the time now.

7. Travel

Traveling with a lover can be something ecstatic but there are some places that will make you think twice about that. If you’ve been to the red light district, then you know it wasn’t easy walking through that street holding hands with your girlfriend.

8. Sleep in your bed alone

There’s nothing like midnight farts and having all that extra space in bed. Embrace the long comfortable nights.

9. Move whenever you want

One really cool thing about being alone is having the luxury of moving whenever you feel like it. Grab that Mary Poppins bag and choose a different destination every time.

10. Social media won’t be that much pressure anymore

Just consider this: You don’t have to worry about your relationship status every time you have a fight with your boyfriend, you won’t have to worry about who it is okay and not okay to accept on Facebook, you don’t have to worry about which photos might be unsuitable in the eyes of your boyfriend.

11. You won’t settle for just anyone

Having made peace with the single life, you will not rush into random relationships or average mates. Being single means that you’ve spent time with yourself, and with that you grow. With your growth comes rational decisions and higher standards, which will all make you happier in the end.

12. You don’t have that much pressure on how you look

Even the most attractive models get insecure about their looks, especially when it comes to the dynamics of a relationship. Being single means that you can think you are beautiful without anyone else's expectations.

13. You don’t have to take life so seriously

It is only natural that you would have to be considerate of your partner’s feelings. This means that you would have to think of how everything you’re doing affects the person you’re with. The sad truth remains that you will always disagree at some point and you will always have a little bit of drama in your life no matter how cool your partner is.

Being in a relationship could be the right thing for some people, but it is the right thing for everyone to experience being single before thinking of committing to a relationship that involves so much.
