As the rain storm continues to hit Dubai and the UAE, I’ll try to remind you of the positive things about rain in this beautiful city. So, in case you forgot why raining is so great in Dubai, here are a few reminders ...
1. Because we get to over flood our Snapchat and Instsgram with videos of the rain using captions such as #Mashalla, #ILoveRain and #BeSafe
2. Because we get to channel our inner Londoners with Instagram photos of raindrops trickling down our windows while holding a Starbucks Macchiato under the rain with the hashtag #LondonWeather
3. Because we get to leave work early and tease our friends who are still at work
4. Because we can finally wear those leather boots we bought last summer just because they were on sale, and no one can judge us or send us sarcastic looks for wearing them
5. Because we can use the rain as an excuse to cancel any undesired meeting/date and snuggle at home in our PJs holding our beloved pizza boxes
6. Because we can be creative and use our kayaks or inflatable unicorn shaped float to navigate the flooded roads of Jumeirah or JLT
7. Because we can use our brains and invent new methods to reach our cars inside flooded parking lots ... like that smart man who used a shopping cart and a long stick to wheel himself to his car!
8. Because we can catch up on all our pending emails, Whatsaap group chats and social media feeds while we are stuck in the endless traffic jam …
We might even call our grandmother that we haven’t spoken to in months or reflect on our existence in this universe and the future of our species ...
9. Because for once, our cars are not going to be the dirtiest on the road! Under the rain, all cars are equally dirty
10. Because we can almost experience how being in a submarine feels as our cars become half submerged in water … The question is: How do we get out?!
11. Because we can finally practice achieving inner peace and patience as we sit in our cars waiting for the cars to move
12. Because we get to see real life daredevils who test that inner peace we tried so hard to achieve as they splash our cars when they zoom by us … thanks for that stupid!
