Egypt's pyramids, museums and attractions are some of the most beautiful in the Arab world. The country was once well known as a haven for tourists, but things have changed in recent years.
Uprisings, political unrest, extremist violence and economic crises dealt a massive blow to tourism.
In a bid to revive the industry, Egypt's ministry of tourism released the breathtaking This is Egypt video in 2015. But the move backfired with many complaining that the video did not reflect the Egypt they live in.
Now as the industry continues to suffer, it looks like Egyptians are taking matters into their own hands.
Many have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on how to revive the industry on the hashtag: #هنشط_السياحه_المصريه_ب (We're going to revive tourism in Egypt by...)
Some suggestions are interesting, others are serious and a few are quite funny.
1. Some want to revive tourism with... "Love"
2. Others are turning to Fifi Abdo and Elham Shaheen
3. Nothing is as powerful as food
4. Or Will Smith kissing the Sphinx of Giza
5. Why not try a few renovations and five star hotels
"Asiout's neglected corniche must be renovated and we want five star hotels built around it."
6. Or educating future generations on the issue
"Add tourism to every school curriculum... and it must be a central subject."
7. Propaganda might do the trick
"Good advertising and films that reflect the positive side of the country."
8. Less Sphinx themed photos
"We'll revive tourism when Egyptians stop taking such photos with the Sphinx of Giza, stop with this theme already."
9. Some won't reveal their plans until they're President
"I've got a full program planned but I am keeping it to myself for when I become President Inchallah."
10. Others did away with ridicule and called for action
"To the people who aren't taking this seriously, if tourism is revived it will do wonders for Egypt's economy."
11. And if all else doesn't work, maybe this will
"Let it be... it'll revive itself."
