There's something about Simon Cowell's expressions that's quite similar to those of an Arab father.

Maybe it's that eye roll or the constant 'burying his face in his hands' move.

Whatever it is, watching him go about his jury duty on live television can sometimes remind us of a few familiar reactions.

Here's how:

1. When you say: "Baba, I need more money"

Not a good way to start or end the day.

2. When he's fed up with all your usual lies/excuses

You: I spent it on books.

Him: ...

3. When you've failed the entire semester

Need we say more?

4. When you tell him you don't want to be an engineer

Or say you won't be taking over the family business.

5. When you try to convince him of your point of view

Don't even try.

6. When you start a conversation with "I want..."

You already know the answer.

7. When you embarrass him in front of extended family

Him: My son/daughter is an MD...

You: I am a nutritionist.

8. When he gives you 'the look'

Never a good sign.

9. When he sees your mobile phone bill

May the force be with you.

10. When he says: "Go ask your mom"

Enough said.

Bonus round: When he says "Inshallah baba habibi/habibti"

The iconic way to brush things off.
