This year marks Amman's first edition of Design Week, a highly-anticipated yearly art show that we've seen in many major cities and the region, notably Beirut Design Week and Dubai Design Week. Amman Design Week (ADW) will take place in several Ammani landmarks for nine days featuring design installations, pop up shops, talks, guided tours and workshops for people of all ages.

ADW starts September 1st and end on the 9th of September. Here are 15 things we're very excited about seeing at ADW:

The Hangar was built in the 1930s to house electricity generators that light up the capital. It is currently a historic landmark.

The exhibition is curated by the legendary Jordanian architect Sahel al Hiyari, famously known to have designed the Khalid Shoman Foundation, Darat al Funun. The Hangar Exhibition will focus on showcasing local designers that push boundaries of material, scale, function and form.

The MakerSpace exhibits digital and innovative design technology and will take place at the Jordan Museum in Ras Al Ain. The space will allow designers to experiment and interact with 3D printers, audio-visual devices and advanced robotics with a self-directed learning experience.

The Crafts District will take place at the Raghdan Tourist Terminal in downtown Amman. The space, curated by architect Dina Haddadin, will showcase pop-up shops, demonstration booths, design installations and traditional food components. It features weaving, ceramics, embroidery to pottery in the presence of local and regional designers.

An exhibition for Australian artist and illustrator Georgia Hill, exhibiting her new work in hand-generated distortion and experimentation of letterforms. You can visit the exhibition at Jacaranda Images in Jabal Amman between September 1 and 9 at 11.00 AM - 8.00 PM.

In memory of the late artist and architect Ali Maher, who was a great cultural icon and teacher in Amman, this exhibition comprises a collection of Maher's sketches. It will take place at the Duke's Diwan in downtown, starting September 1-9 from 9.00 AM - 7.00 PM.

The convention will display the work of independent t-shirt designers and Imad Shawa, owner and founder of Mlabbas . It will take place at the Abdoun branch of Mlabbas starting September 1-3 at 3.00 PM - 10.00 PM.

An independent event taking place Al Muntzah Circle on September 2, designers Rand El Haj Hassan and Flaÿou will be exhibiting installations made of carton. They are extremely intricate and will dazzle your sense of dimension.

We could, in theory, tell the history of the modern Arab world in posters. We have volumes of these, political, cultural and otherwise, and they stand as a testament to our rapidly changing times. Here is an exhibition showcasing some of the Arab region's most famous and creative posters, taking place on three separate days September 2, 6 and 9 at the Locanda Hotel in Weibdeh.

Those taking part in this workshop will work with fallen palm leaves, grass, flowers, sumac, red henna, saffron, rose leaves, paprika, tea and local coffee to create their own paper. Taking place at the Raghadan Tourist Terminal on September 2 & 6. The workshop will be curated by Iraq's Al Amir's Cooperative Association.
