Here are 10 mountain peaks across the MENA region you should plan to climb soon:
1. Jabal Jais, UAE
Jabal Jais is the tallest mountain in the United Arab Emirates. It is situated at an altitude of 1,910 meters with its highest point reaching 1,925 meters. Temperatures during the winter season can fall to about -3 degrees Celsius. The mountain will soon unveil a protected climbing route and a 2.6 kilometer zip-line, making it the longest in the world!
2. Qurnet Al Sawda, Lebanon
Located in Lebanon, Qurnat Al Sawda is the highest point in the Levant region, situated at about 3,088 meters above sea level.
3. Jabal Ram, Jordan
Located in Wadi Rum, Jabal Ram is the second highest mountain in Jordan situated 1,734 meters above sea level.
4. Jabal Sawda, Saudi Arabia
Located in Saudi Arabia, this mountain sits at about 3,000 meters above sea level. There has been a debate on whether this is the highest peak in the country, with many saying there are higher elevations elsewhere.
5. Jabal Hafeet, UAE
Located in Al Ain, with parts of the mountain bordering Oman, Jabal Hafeet is situated at about 1,249 meters above sea level.
6. Jabal Umm al Dami, Jordan
The highest peak in Jordan is located in Wadi Rum and is situated at about 1,854 meters above sea level.
7. Atlas Mountains, Tunisia, Algeria & Morocco
The mountain range extends around 2,500 km across Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and separates the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastline from the Sahara Desert. The highest peak is Jabal Toubkal, with an altitude of 4,167 meters. It is located in southwestern Morocco.
8. Mount Catherine, Egypt
The highest mountain in Egypt is located near the city of Saint Catherine in the South Sinai area. The mountain is situated at an altitude of 2,629 meters.
9. Mount Damavand, Iran
Mount Damavand is a potentially active volcano located near the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in the Mazandaran Province, 66 km northeast of the city of Tehran. There are at least 16 different routes to the summit, with the longest taking up to two days.
10. Jabal Shams, Oman
Located 240 kilometers from Muscat, Jabal Shams is the highest mountain in the country and part of Al Hajar Mountains range with altitudes reaching 3,009 meters.
