Egypt's Red Sea coast is home to a variety of sites that offer spectacular underwater experiences. We've narrowed down the best of the best.
1. The Canyon
Located in Sinai's Dahab, the spot consists of beautiful coral gardens where divers can see a variety of marine life including Butterfly-fish, Unicorn-fish, Octopuses and Puffer-fish, and an underwater canyon that offers breathtaking views of the sun-rays through the water.
2. Samadai Reef: The Dolphin House
As its name suggests, the site in Marsa Alam is one of the most important dolphin habitats in the Red Sea as it is both the home of a family of spinner dolphins and is visited by others regularly.
3. Elphinstone Reef
Located in Marsa Alam, the site is perfect for divers who aren't scared of a few sharks running around. The elongated reef is visited by oceanic white-tip and hammerhead sharks.
4. The SS Thistlegorm Wreck
The SS Thistlegorm was an armed British Navy ship that was bombed by German aircraft during World War II and sank near Ras Mohammed. The amazing historical wreck is filled with military trucks, motorbikes, boots, stacks of rifles, and a variety of spare parts for military planes and cars.
5. Abu Dabbab
Located in Marsa Alam, the unique spot's coral garden is inhabited by some endangered dugongs, a variety of sea turtles and the endangered napoleon wrasse.
6. The Blue Hole
Famous for being the most dangerous diving site in the world, Dahab's Blue Hole is a submarine sinkhole filled with beautiful coral and reef fish that are enjoyed by snorkelers and divers alike.
7. Daedalus Reef
Located about 90 kilometers offshore from Marsa Alam, the isolated reef is one of the most pristine in the Red Sea and is regularly visited by hammerhead sharks and pelagic fish.
8. The Brothers Islands
Located about 67 kilometers away from Al-Qusayr, they offer a variety of attractions including coral walls, large pelagic fish and sharks, as well as two shipwrecks, the Aida II and the Numidia.
9. Anemone City
Located in the Ras Mohammed nature reserve, the reef is unique for the presence of dense colonies inhabited by sea anemones, as well as the presence of clown-fish.
10. The Abu Nuhas Reef
Located north of Hurghada, the offshore reef is home to more than five shipwrecks as it is a navigation hazard, including the Carnatic, a British Cargo steam ship that sunk in 1869.
